I am a part of the following Committees: Assessment, Diversity, Core Book, and Convocation. (I had participated in the Campus Council until its conclusion last spring).
You can view my current Subject Guides. I created a guide each program at my institution. This process covered a little over one year, and now includes over 53 guides (some are hidden and used for staff, testing, or related activities).
You can also view my libraries' website with links to the Library Newsletter (created by myself), all above Guidelines, and related materials.
I ask my staff how they would address a problem in the library. I ask for their input in regard to how we conduct Inter-Library Loans, manage testers, address noise in the library, and how to arrange the space around us. Since we work different hours at two different campuses, we are separated by space and time. To allow us to work together outside of email and phone calls and our yearly library staff development day, we used a Google Doc to address some of these very issues. All staff were asked to offer their thoughts and we tried to incorporate their great ideas in how we handled these issues. One of these was our Working with Patrons document. We used Google Drive to go back and forth on some tasks as well. For example, we created a Library Staff page to maintain one source for all of our procedures. This is an ongoing process, but we used Google Drive to allow us to simultaneously edit the same set of procedures. Some of our positions are part-time and our staff members tend to leave us and we must train new people to do a multitude of tasks--far more than they expect when they apply. I am most proud of the fact that these individuals go onto great full-time jobs after they leave us (or retire). I love that we've had such great people helping patrons, even if they soon leave us. New staff members are given a Great Library Assistants page (particularly helpful for student workers). Student Workers are also given a separate instruction sheet.
We also work together on our Goals and Accomplishments for each year. We were very proud of our 2018-2019 Accomplishments. Their individual accomplishments were great to see as well. And we are working hard on our Goals for 2019-2020 as well.
Since my arrival, we have weeded the collection using criteria that made certain we had materials that suited our students and their programs. We moved our Reference collection into our Circulation collection because we wanted our students to be able to take all of our materials home. We removed the door gate because we felt it was a hindrance to students with mobility issues and only made students feel that they were being policed without giving us any real value (it had only false positive alarms). We re-arranged the library to create semi-private spaces and to bring more light into the space. This required us to shift the collection at both campuses. We created procedures for all that we do, both for ourselves and for new staff.
This spring we are re-cataloging our entire collection in order to update our catalog. We also will move to a single sign-in and discovery search for the main page of the library.
In my libraries we create all IDs for the campus, run a variety of tests (over 1200 per year), hold faculty office hours and events, and house various computer programs for different departments. I am the Chief Examiner for HiSet (ETS high school equivalency).
